When I’m overwhelmed, I clean. Sort. Declutter. It helps me think.
My subconscious brain handles the issues where I manage the cobwebs and dust – bunnies. These ways are helpful in clearing the cobwebs on your website.
Here are 4 things you can do to improve your site right now:
#1. Declutter your site:
A cluttered website fails to serve its purpose.
Be it conversion, or keeping your readers on your site or being useful to them – a cluttered website will just won’t serve any of these purposes.
Which is why decluttering is highly significant.
You need to take a look at your site from the point of view as a reader. As a blog owner, your site might look impressive to you.
But from the perspective of your readers, it could be a lot cluttered.
So what are the things that you should look for?
1. Too many or distracting ads
2. Pop-ups that hinder user experience
3. In-content link ads that confuse your readers (as to which is a reference link and which is an ad)
4. Poor navigation (or too many menus and menu items)
5. Useless widgets
6. Mediocre blog posts
#2. Work on your site speed:
Your website’s loading speed decides whether your readers stay on your site or not.
According to an infographic at KissMetrics, “loading time is important contributing factor to page abandonment.”
Your readers are not going to wait for more than 5 seconds for a page on your website to load.
And if they are viewing your blog from a mobile device (for which the chances are pretty high) they are not going to wait for more than 3 seconds.
I know that can put a lot of pressure on you, but it is not something that you cannot achieve.
Follow the best practices to Speed Up Your Website Today like:
1. Make use of Google PageSpeed tools
3. Optimize your images
5. Allow gzip compression
6. You could enable AMP on your website to help mobile users with poor internet speed.
7. Do not make your pages heavy by using a lot of external scripts.
8. When you upload images to make sure you compress them using a tool like compressor.io
#3. Publish consistently:
Consistency is the key to success. And if you want your blog to be successful, you have to treat it like a business. Publishing whenever you feel you are in the right mood is certainly not the way to go.
Make it a commitment and get to a consistent publishing schedule.
At the same time, you don’t have to force yourself into an unrealistic or unmanageable publishing schedule.
You just have to be consistent. Pick a frequency that suits you and stick to it – it can be twice a week, thrice a month or anything that fits you.
You might want to use a few tools to capture blog post ideas, have a list of ideas ready and use an editorial calendar to help you with this!
But once you start to publish consistently your blog starts to improve – and this is not a spike kind of improvement but something that works for the long run.
I am so excited with the time I get to an end of an amazing post and started planning where I would share it and what my introduction would have in the post or what board I am gonna add it to on pinterest.
I get to the end and go on looking for the share button…and nothing.??? Do you want me to share this???
I scroll all the way above… Thinking.. I should share this or not…
Why do you have share buttons right at the start of your post?? I haven’t read it yet. Move the buttons to the last of the post; you have more chances to like and share.
Another way out is… Float your share buttons on the side of the post and make sure that it’s not covering your site on mobile and cutting off the beginning or end of lines.
